I had been optimistic that 2023 would be the final year in which the non-Aboriginal GuriNgai Cult would be able to blatantly and repeatedly disregard the laws, lore, Culture of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people alike. Investigations are underway and literally hundreds of thousands of people are now both aware of the GuriNgai and who they really are, and have the evidence of GuriNgai crimes in the palm of their hands.
The last vestiges of the GuriNgai Cult limped on through 2024 before finally falling to pieces completely on the eve of NAIDOC 2024; meaning for the first time in over 2 decades, the Communities of the Hornsby Shire, Northern Beaches of NSW, and Central Coast of NSW had certainty of a Culturally safe NAIDOC Week celebration, free of GuriNgai. The genuine Aboriginal communities of these areas filled the voids left by departing GuriNgai, and by all accounts 2024 has been the most successful NAIDOC Week yet.
Currently there are state and federal criminal investigations underway, as well as investigations by both the NSW and Commonwealth Ombudsman, ASIC, ICAC, the Australian Taxation Office as well as internally and externally with the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations.
The clock is ticking, and the pressure has been showing on the faces of GuriNgai for some time.
It took this long before I received the next threats to my and my families safety. This time from English born ‘Sovereign uncle’ Colin Hayter. Colin was one of the small group of pseudo-historians with messianic delusions of self importance that have gravitated to the tree Beverly Spiers dubbed the ‘grandmother tree’ within the last 2 decades.
Colin was upset the graffiti site dubbed the Kariong Glyphs had been disturbed during scheduled maintenance on the National Park. Such was Colin’s rage that he decided I was a suitable target. The authorities were advised and Colin Hayter wisely decided to keep his threats to himself.
By coincidence, that same day saw the following action by a group of non-Aboriginal ‘grandmothers.’

The NRL responds to complaints regarding non-Aboriginal man Neil Evers, performing the GuriNgai interpretation of a ‘Acknowledgment of Country’, during the Indigenous Rounds match that marked the beginning of Reconciliation Week, and occurred less than 48 hours before Sorry Day.

The Australian Museum, and Hornsby Shire Council are both non-Aboriginal Organisations. They are also the only organisations on earth still failing to recognise the GuriNgai for who and what they really are.
At least that’s still the case at the time of writing this.

If you’ve made it this far congratulations!
You are now more informed, educated, and aware of the history and current state of the people operating under the GuriNgai umbrella than some in the local community.
Conclusion.
On the 7th of July 2024 we reached the milestone of 365 days since publishing this site. The non-Aboriginal GuriNgai group spent that year losing members, supporters, and opportunities to further steal from us, as opportunities to profiteer evaporated before their eyes.
In response:
They threatened to harm my family and I.
They threatened to have me killed.
They threatened to take me to Court, and that exposing them would be the end of me.
What they did not do was even attempt to demonstrate why they believe their own bogus claims, and what evidence they have to justify their supposed certainty that literally everyone else on earth is wrong.
The GuriNgai said they would do this, telling their members and friends they were coming after my family in Court.
But they didn’t actually follow-through on even this.
It took the GuriNgai twenty-one years to build their Cult – our mob swept it away like a cleansing fire in a single year.
Our babies, stories, Country and Culture are finally safe from the GuriNgai fakes further colonisation – I’m very much looking forward to getting this adventure published and accepted in academia in order to nail that door shut, and to work with and learn from mob all over to resolve this wider Indigenous Identity Appropriation/Fraud issue once and for all.
The current membership of the Guringai Tribal Link Aboriginal Corporation is made up of 49 people. The 2021 Census tells us the Central Coast is home to 17,047 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. This statistically tiny group on non-Aboriginal People have wrought decades of pain and frustration, creating a disproportionately negative impact not just on their local area, but Australia wide. They demonstrate no regard for actual Aboriginal community or culture, as evidenced by their actions alone, and less regard for the millions of non-Aboriginal people they have duped. That there appears to be no accountability either internally or externally is deeply saddening.
This project began as a collection of publicly available digital content relating to my confirmed Ancestor, Bungaree. In looking through troves of data I noticed that despite a Google search for the term “sophy bungaree” collecting about 407 results (0.26 seconds), every single one of those results were placed ‘online’ by an affiliate of a Director of this so-called Guringai Tribal Link Aboriginal Corporation.
Not only was this apparent planting of pseudo-Aboriginal fiction pervasive; it was very, very obvious. Collecting as many examples as I could and placing them in a timeline led to the unescapable certainty that Mr Warren Whitfield cobbled together his idea of a “tribe”, using a collection of non-Aboriginal historian and Settler accounts, motivated by the discovery Bungaree is famous.
It has been immensely gratifying to find that my conclusions had been independently reached by many other Aboriginal People including Bob Syron, the Aboriginal Heritage Office, and many other incredible community Organisations, and concerned non-Aboriginal professionals such as Dr Natalie Kwok, and Dr Laurence Paul Allen.

I would also be remiss in not pointing out the contributions of historians Tom Richmond, and Dr Keith Vincent Smith.
Warren Whitfield was correct that Bungaree is famous, but was wrong to believe he could claim him as his own without showing courtesy to his genuine descendants, or offering credible evidence of any kind.
This compilation of publicly available information is online for all the world to see, and confirms what many in the Aboriginal community have been saying for over two decades.
My hope is that viewing the larger picture lets the wider community see with their own eyes what is already apparent to us:
the deliberate construction of a false, pseudo-Aboriginal Culture, centered around their self declared ‘Elders’, ‘Uncles’, and ‘Aunties’, profiting every step of the way, to the detriment of actual Aboriginal People.
I do not believe these people will stop falsly misrepresenting themselves as Aboriginal, stop speaking on behalf of Aboriginal people, stop claiming a greater understanding of Aboriginal Culture than genuine Aboriginal people; the thought sickens me to my core.
I take solace from knowing that once enough people care enough to notice these self appointed Emperors have no clothes, the blatant harm they cause can be reduced, and relevant Authorities may finally be motivated to act.
Yanu,
JD Cooke.
