Followers of the teaching of non-Aboriginal woman Beverly Spiers, aka Goolabeen, are determined to honor that woman’s legacy.

Unfortunately that legacy is one of outright delusion, white supremacy, Wiccan and Native American rituals and garb appropriated to approximate Aboriginal Culture, and a superiority and righteousness that is incredibly dangerous.
Such adherents include:
Tracey Howie, non-Aboriginal director of Guringai Tribal Link Aboriginal Corporation, who falsly claims to be a descendant of Bungaree and Matora, and an Elder of a fictional ‘tribe’ of nebulous naming.
Colleen Fuller, non-Aboriginal Person who falsly claims to be Yuin, Darkinoong, and an Elder – no of which are close to true.
Jake Cassar – Appropriator of Aboriginal Culture, profiteer and worse:
Nina Angelo – An active ‘voice’ in the local Community.
and a slew of local residents that make up a vocal portion of local ‘interest groups’ such as Coast Community Voice (CCV), and the Coast Environmental Alliance (CEA).
Many of Goolabeen’s ‘teachings’ would later be taken up by Tracey Howie, and coopted into her fictional ‘GuriNgai/Guringai.Wannagine/Walkaloa/Wannabe tribe.
Examples include ‘ceremony’ at the so-called Grandmother Tree, a name and ceremony entirely created by Ms Spiers as recently as the early 2000’s, and without any trace of genuine Aboriginal Culture required.
What these People repeatedly disregard is the very real harm they cause to genuine Aboriginal People, and Places – they’re misguided beliefs place them above such concerns – they know best, because Goolabeen told them they did.
